Hawaiian Puka shells means "shell with a hole." They have been used in necklaces, bracelets and anklets by Hawaiians, for both ceremonial and everyday adornment.
The "Puka" shell is in fact the worn top of a colorful cone shell, that has been washed ashore and trapped in the surf zone. There it is smoothed and polished by the relentless Hawaiian surf, until it is as you see it now - a natural bead.
These "finished" shells are then collected by our Local Artist, and strung into their unique and beautifull Hawaiian Puka Shell Jewelry!
Our unique Hawaiian Puka shell jewelry is designed and crafted on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The shells are then sorted for quality size and colors. Most of the shells have a tiny "puka" or hole worn through the middle of the shell making them perfect for stringing on a necklace.
The beautiful "White" "Purple" "Brown" "Rainbow" necklaces & Lei's are a unique feature of our local artist. It is achieved by using only authentic "Hawaiian" Puka Shells! Ours is the only Local artist currently making these "Styles" of jewelry. Each piece is unique and individual, as no 2 shells ever turn out exactly the same.
Note: Be aware of other websites claiming to sell authentic puka shell necklaces for less then $20, these are what is known as Hawaiian style puka shell. They come from the Philippines and are also nice & in demand. We also sell this type of necklace for less than $15! :-)
